Put Together

The word "uniform" comes from the two Latin words "unus" and "forma." These words mean "one form." My uniform sets me apart from others. It tells other people who and what I am. Often times people base judgments of others based on their appearance. Wearing the proper uniform with all badges and pins in their proper places shows that I have pride in myself, as well as in the Unit in which I serve. This is important because it not only defines me as a person and soldier, but it represents the company I work for, it represents this country. This week our station was instructed to arrive at work wearing our dress uniform on Wednesday. After spending 2 hours moving pins to this shirt, I thought I was ready. After arriving to work I was told that I was out of uniform, I failed to realize that I was wearing the wrong white button up shirt. I was then instructed to fix it, which lead me to leaving the office to go home “without guidance” from those appointed above me. Anyways, I failed to wear the proper articles of clothing. As a non-commissioned officer who has been in the Army for 1 years and has worn this uniform on many different occasions, this is unacceptable. I did not follow guidelines that are outlined in Army Regulation 670-1 which states: “The Army is a uniformed service where discipline is judged, in part, by the manner in which a soldier wears a prescribed uniform, as well as by the individual's personal appearance. Therefore, a neat and well-groomed appearance by all soldiers is fundamental to the Army and contributed to building the pride and esprit essential to an effective military force. A vital ingredient of the Army's strength and military effectiveness is the pride and self-discipline that American soldiers bring to their Service through a conservative military image.
