Instead, the yardstick of maturity is marked by the qualities of self-denial, determination, and dependability. Self-denial is an important quality in the mature student. In some instances, setting aside of ones own wishes, interest, or needs, whether it’s voluntary or enforced by circumstances generally portrays a mature being. This quality of character shows the strength and ability to over come temptation and the theoretical part of the human psyche; the ego. A person of maturity will not allow themselves to be distracted by amusement before realizing the importance of doing homework or studying for an exam.
