Redefining Male and Female Relations

Men and women have co-existed since the beginning of their creation. Living, seeing, breathing and interacting is a significant factor in the relationships they build with one another. Early in society, the ideology of male and female roles was given. Men were given the role to work and secure income for the family, while women established an orderly household. Creating a misconception of these subjected roles would backlash society's equality for both genders, particularly women. However, the difference in male and female relations today versus centuries ago manipulates the conception of so-called innate roles men and women were issued to play. With major changes in the workforce, education, including the home front, men and women are redefining their relations to benefit each other in this emergent society.

Collectively, the identity of men and women in most societies is very close, although some aspects are carried out differently in certain cultures. Nonetheless, for centuries, society has defined the worth of a woman less to that of a man. In 1980, the United Nations summed up the burden of inequality: "Women, who comprise half the world's population, do two thirds of the world's work, earn one tenth of the world's income and own one hundredth of the world's property (Gender and Society)." Even in early teachings of religion, The Bible clearly states the worth of men greater compared to the worth of women. In Leviticus, God told Moses that a man is worth fifty sheikels and a woman is worth thirty sheikels. Coincidentally, this is roughly the current salary differentials of the sexes, in the United States, today (Gender and Society).
