Winter: The Season of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Our winter season has lasted a lot longer in the past couple of years. The bitter cold and snow seems to linger from November right into March and last year, two major storms hit in April. January has been extremely cold and in many ways the weather has effected our movements this month. When it is this cold, with temperatures dipping at -32◦, it can effect the whole family.
The weather has made it extremely difficult for me this month, as this is the first winter on my own and I have had to shovel a lot of snow. Not being as young as I used to be, there have been times already when the snow has become quite heavy and I have had to do it in intervals. You must be careful how you bend and lift, so as not to damage your back or even your arms, due to the weight of the snow. Also, they say there is a high rate of heart attacks because people tend to stay out too long in the cold and do not shovel appropriately.
The extreme high and lows of the temperature has caused many icicles to form along my eaves troughs of my roof and at times they drip down on the front steps of my main entrance, covering them with thick sheets of ice. A law suit waiting to happen if I am not diligent in clearing this away constantly by either chopping up the ice or salting. This is has been a constant this month so far and costly as well, but I do not want anyone to be harmed.
My two younger sons are hard to make wear appropriate clothing when it is snowing or when the temperatures are extreme. Hats, gloves, sweaters, and boots are reminders given to them every morning before school. I must sound like a broken record. Forget mentioning snow pants, gone are those days because at their age now, they are not considered fashionable to be seen wearing at school. Getting ready in the morning takes more time than usual, as you have to cover your skin to avoid...
