Why Is It Difficult To Feed The Worlds Population
Irony at its best. The masters of earth have once again outdone themselves. If the shortage of the fossil fuels wasn't enough now humanity faces another mammoth problem. The problem to feed the entire worlds population. With the population on the ever increase the solution to the problem is becoming more difficult by the minute.
The world's population reached a new record in 1999 when it crossed the 6 billion mark. And just under 2 years it increased by 15 million. And the question we ask is why is it getting difficult to feed the worlds population. And to think that in 2500 years the population was only 3 billion and in just 40 years it got doubled.
Our main and foremost difficulty in feeding the worlds population is the rapid incline in the world's population. There are now more mouths to feed than then the food available. This rapid growth is causing many countries to import food they were previously exporting a main example is that of Pakistan. In the early 1990's Pakistan was exporting wheat and in just a time gap of several years Pakistan became a major importer of wheat, even though it was partially the governments fault. Since the population is ever increasing farmers have to farm all year round. What it succeeds in doing is spoil the fertility of the soil and thus in a couple of years the soils becomes unusable for farming and then precious farm land is wasted and thus destroying the future for the next generation. As the Chinese proverb so beautifully describes it " If u don't change course, you will end up where you are headed." And with this rapid rate of population we are surely heading for disaster. All year farming tempts the water table to rise which results in water logging and salinity. Harmful chemicals rise to the ground and destroy vast areas of fertile land.
