Water Resource Challenge

Monetary is not an essential problem to start the Malathion program since the city of Generciville does not have to spend tax dollars or the community into the program. The Malathion program would be funded by a wealthy city resident that had suffered a loss from the West Nile disease. By doing an aerial spraying of the solution around the city, there could be a reduction in the population of mosquitoes by 90% and provide the same reduction in the risk of the West Nile Virus. Although there is no direct evidence to the long-term risk on the environment the Malathion solution may have, it doesn’t mean that the solution is ineffective and cannot solve the dilemma now. According to the data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2007), the West Nile Virus is a fatal disease that there were 4,269 cases reported in the United States in 2006 and 177 were fatalities. In Florida, a similar program was in forced and as a result as many as 90 cases of illness were related to Malathion and only 4 were fatal. The total number isn’t that great compare to the number of how many individuals had been and will be infected by the West Nile disease if the Malathion program was one in forced.
Moreover, the opposition’s argued that particularly the poor and uneducated people will not be able to follow the guidelines require by the Malathion program. Part of the Malathion program proposal includes the extensive precautions and awareness campaign of how to avoid the spraying exposure during the Malathion program procedure. People in the city of Generciville will be educated on what to do before the programs shall proceed into the next phrase, spraying.
