What are values? According to Webster’s Dictionary values are something (as a principle, quality, or entity) intrinsically valuable or desirable. Based on this definition what traits would be considered a value? What is the most important value? Are values only personal can they found in businesses?
Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory
An assignment for the University of Phoenix Management 521 class students were required to take the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory assessment. The assessment started off explaining ethical decision making involves 3 components: 1) awareness, 2) articulation, and 3) application. Each student was asked questions to answer which option most and least aligned with their personal ethical philosophy. Based on student’s answers the assessment gave scores based on how his ethical philosophy aligned with 1) character, 2) obligation, 3) results, and 4) equity. Character perspective sees a person’s character ranking more important than his actions. While the obligation perspective his duty is to do what is morally right. When a person strives to expand his actions results to doing the greatest good for the largest number, this person has a results perspective. Last perspective of equity is concerned with people lacking knowledge of what is right or wrong. Students can be strongly associated with one perspective or a mixed perspective. Regardless of which ethical style the assessment scored it is important to understand when someone faces a situation he decides to follow what he believes as right.

My ethical philosophy aligned with character. I value more ‘good to be than what is good to do’. Character philosophy stresses helping people achieve a high moral excellence.
