What Was The Trench Warfare
World war one began in 1914 and ended in 1918, meaning that the fierce war was taking place for 4 whole years. What began as a rapid war of movement, soon settled down to static trench warfare. The Trench warfare began in the late 1914 and was soon used by the Germans, French and British.
The trenches were built so that they could hold the land that they had taken and also protect themselves from attacks and weapons. However the only problem with the trenches were the conditions and the states of the trenches. Both the Germans and the Allies used the trench warfare system. However what was proved was that the Germans trenches were stronger and deeper. The trenches in Europe stretched for 400 miles from the Belgium Coast to the Swiss border. As there was battles taking place on the Western Front most of times, they too needed to protect themselves, so the French decided to build trenches too. There was about 40,000 kilometres of trenches on the western front alone. And so trench warfare became the biggest part of World War 1.
To conclude, the trench warfare was a different style of war that no other war had been like. There were many advantages and disadvantages of the trench warfare. The experience of the warfare was dangerous yet protecting.
