Employee training and development is an important part of one’s employment experience and contentment. A newly hired employee will need training on the organizations policies and procedures because every company has different internal rules and methods. A seasoned employee will need continuing development to not only stay abreast of company changes but to also advance ones career. InterClean recently went through a merger with Enviro Tech, during the merger some sales team members were displaced while others were retained. With the new company ready to forge ahead, a training and development program must be created to ensure the company’s success as well as each employee’s success. An affective training program is measurable and “consists of planned programs designed to improve performance at the
individual, group, and/or organizational levels.” (Casico, 2005, pg 286) Detailed below is the training and development program for the sales team at InterClean.
The sales team at InterClean consists of Jim Martin, the VP of sales, Tom Gonzales, the sales manager, and four outside sales representatives. All six team members have experience in sellingindustrial cleaning and sanitation products; however, the new focus will be working in multi-functional teams to provide “solutions and services to help the clients streamline their cleaning effort in the wake of more stringent requirements for environmental safety.” (Scenario: InterClean, pg 1) A demographic analysis was conducted and identified a need for training in the requirements for environmental safety as well as ever-changing regulations governing the healthcare industry surrounding the maintenance of their sterile environment.
