The Profession I Would Like To Choosw
NCNDP School Assembly Speech
Today I would like to share with you some very important information that may one day save your life or the life of a loved one. To fully appreciate the seriousness of this assembly one must first understand that we live on a planet with a core temperature of nearly 7,000 degrees that is being hurled through space at nearly 67,000 miles per hour. Our planet Earth is alive and expands and contracts continually every second of every day. These changes combined with continually varying atmospheric conditions subject the Earth to constant changes on and below its surface. Although these changes have very little effect on the Earth as a whole, they quite often result in drastic changes to the way of life as we humans know it. We call many of these drastic changes “Natural Disasters”. A Natural Disaster is a destructive force, for instance a tornado, earthquake or hurricane. Often these Natural Disasters are devastating and can destroy property and even life. The worst Natural Disaster in U.S. modern times was a hurricane in Galveston, Texas that killed more than 8,000 people. Experts agree that the majority of those people died in vane because of the simple fact that they were not prepared. A U.S. organization called The National Coalition for Natural Disaster Preparedness or NCNDP has assembled information that will help you, your family and friends become prepared to survive a natural disaster. The Disaster Readiness Booklet you have been given is a natural disaster preparedness overview of information provided on the website www.ncndp.org. This booklet and website will help inform you of how you can be prepared for a natural disaster before, during or after it occurs. Please study this booklet and share it with your family and friends. Learn the simple procedures listed in it to increase your chances of surviving a natural disaster. Learn how to survive without our everyday conveniences like water, electricity, phones and even stores....
