The Power and Wealth of the North American Colonies

For decades, North America has been dominated by the European colonizers who came to the continent searching for more power and superiority to acquire over the rest of the world. The main European nations that raced to colonize the land of North America were Spain, Portugal England and France[1]. Those major nations traveled across the world looking for territories to conquer and build their empires on. The rich geographic regions of North America gave the major Europeans colonizers economic prosperity, political success as well as allowing them to broaden and strengthen their empire.
The North American continent was inhabited for many years with what Columbus and his other explorers called the Natives. Many estimation at that time claimed that there were one to three million Native Americans[2] who came from different parts of Asia into Alaska and then traveled through North America[3] establishing their diverse culture in many different regions of the continent. However, after the enormous achievements of the Europeans in discovering the continent, many Native Americans were killed; many others were enslaved and were forced into working for the Europeans.
Portugal for instance was the first country to start exploring new territories[4] to acquire more power, which triggered many other European nations to compete in enlarging their empires. The Portuguese explorers conquered part of Asia such as China and Japan to build more trading ties between Asia and Portugal. However, their conquered land did not last for too long as they failed to maintain their empire. That led for losing their conquered Asian land to another European strong opponent, the Dutch[5] who just arrived to Asia to compete with the newly created Portuguese empire. The Portuguese with many other European nations then turned their heads to the American unexplored land to look for more resources to bring to Europe.
