The focus of this essay will be to explain the importance of physical training and accountability in today’s army. These two things have great precedence when it comes performing your duties as a soldier and are a large part of the responsibility we undertake when enlisting in the armed forces.
First I will begin with explaining the many important factors of pt and why it pertains to a soldier and their well being and readiness. The Army Physical Fitness program has two factors the weigh-in and the Physical Fitness Test. The APFT is a three-event physical performance test used to assess endurance. It is a simple way to measure your physical strengths, abilities, and cardio-respiratory fitness. The intent of the APFT is to provide a baseline assessment regardless of your Military Occupational Specialty. The APFT is to be taken at least twice a calendar year and you must be able to meet the minimum standards to be eligible for promotion, transfer, and to attend Army schools. The three PFT events are two minutes of push-ups, two minutes of sit-ups, and a timed 2-mile run. Your results from each event are assigned a score. To pass you must Score 180 points or higher with at least 60 points in each event. Your age, gender and the amount of repetitions or time elapsed for each event determines your score. Unlike other military endurance tests the APFT is normally performed in normal workout gear and running shoes. Army pt is done on a daily basis and is designed to maintain your level of physical fitness level however is not designed to improve your physical fitness, only maintain it. If a soldier falls below the standard it is his or her responsibility to improve on his or her own. The army also has a special population pt program to help the soldier improve as well.
