Television: The plug in drug When the television invented, it created the most affect into the American’s life. But the real thriving era of the television only started by the introduction of the TV sets. Marie Winn, the author of the essay “Television: The plug in drug” highly consider the consequences of the TV sets to the family, and she listed out the bad sides: children’s lives become more separate from their parents’, family’s life becomes increasingly more unsatisfying and more. The television brings us more entertainments, hot news, information, but to stick to the television like couch potatoes will change us the normal habits, rituals or even undermining the family. As the third thing to argue, she chose “real people” to strongly mention about the effect of TV sets to describe its damages to the normal life of the family. Winn has shown the importance of the eye contact to the children. There is no eye contact for the child to study in TV then she gave us the comment and suggested an answer of some people to show how TV set affected them and their child “Children who have been taught, or conditioned, to listen passively most of the day to the warm verbal communications coming from the TV screen… they lose the ability to learn from reality because life experiences are much more complicated than the ones they see on the screen” and a teacher who has watched few hours of TV then she got some trouble about herself and dealing with the real people because the lacks of effort.
