Student Survival Guide GEN 105 Axia College Using Axia’s Educational Resources Upholding Academic Honesty Setting and Achieving Goals Identifying long and short-term goals is perhaps the most important key to a student’s success while they are taking classes whether at a traditional or long distance learning school. Without these in mind, a student would be aimless in their search for a higher education. The important thing to remember is that goals are not impossible to achieve. In achieving hard to reach goals, a student must keep in mind that a goal is only as important as the sub goals that go along with that goal. Having a goal of becoming a manager of a nightclub would be almost impossible unless you set minor goals like learning the inner workings of a club, managing finances, networking, etc… Earning an Axia degree is a goal upon itself. It is the pinnacle of the student to acquire recognition and completion of their higher learning. Managing Time Wisely Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention The subject of reading comprehension techniques is a subject of great discussion. Wordy definitions coupled with the complicated nature of reading comprehension are what keep us from understanding it fully. Comprehension requires the reader not to only read the passage, but to construct the idea that is being illustrated by the author. In essence, the reader brings purposes and life experiences to bear to converse with the text. A successful technique, which a student can utilize to help them with this complicated issue, is SQ3R. SQ3R is; Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review. It is a very thorough and efficient way to garner information from reading any passage because it allows the reader to dissect any passage into importance and relevance.
