Solving Ethical Dilemmas

Assignment:   Fully Applying a Decision-Making Framework

Albert Gable’s is wrapped up in a real ethical dilemma. In this case, Mr. Gable needs to make a choice as to what is morally and/or ethically right.   First, Mr. Gable has engaged in conversations also referred to by the loan officer as “locker room talk”, which involves the confidential finances of his client/friends.   This is something that should not be done without receiving an okay from his clients/friends, because he has an obligation to them as clients (as well as friends) not to discuss any of their personal finances because it is ethically wrong.   Secondly, he needs to make a decision as to whether to remove himself from the situation because of the unethical practices that he will be engaging in if he continues with the planning of the Wilson’s financial plan, knowing that he has seen some discrepancies with their loan files.
The first stakeholder in this situation is the firm that Albert works for.   They may be affected as well because if Albert resigns as CPA for the Wilsons, the firms also looses a client, which in turn will result in them loosing money.   If Albert continues working for the Wilson’s and it is revealed that at some time the events that took place with the indiscretions regarding the Wilson’s, the firm will look unreliable and they will in turn loose some of their honor.   The Wilson’s are also stakeholders in this situation.   Albert has already violated his client/accountant (friends as well) confidentiality and is actually unable to help them make a sound decision, because of the affects it can have on the Wilson’s possible divorce in the future as well as his own possible financial gain and as well as the firm he works for.   Everyone in this situation can be affected by the decision that Albert makes. Albert’s daughter could be affected as far as her college education goes, because if he resigns as CPA for the Wilsons, he will not receive the bonus...
