Role of Women

By reading an article on the Internet, I learned a lot of about how far women have gone to get rights in society. The article basically breaks down the different things that women can do now, that they couldn’t in the past. In relating women to education, women now have access to education and can promote themselves much more easily then in the past. Many efforts have been made to remove the stereotypes between men and women in textbooks. Many textbooks still present themselves in a male oriented way. Most male achievements are highlighted in history, while women’s are sometimes not noticed. Also women are sometimes looked down upon in the job field. In most fields of employment, women's presence is felt and their voice is heard. Although there has been progress in understanding the value of women's contributions in many employment fields, there are still huge problems to resolve. The article explains how women of today have much more freedom then they did years ago. Women solely don’t have to be labeled as only mothers and homemakers. They are able to make major decisions on their own.
When interviewing my mom about the role of women she kept to her traditional ways. I come from an Italian family and women are expected to take care of the family. My mother experienced this and grew up this way. Growing up, my grandfather was the one to provide for the family. He would work long hours and make a living that way. My grandmother worked but also took care of the kids and cooked dinner every night for when my grandfather came home. These are the traditional things of doing things in the past and it still stuck with my mom. She still thinks that a mother should still have some of the same duties that women had in the past. These duties include take care of children, cook, and clean. My mother does all of these but it not because she’s forced; it’s just the way she’s used to doing things.
