Problem Solution: Riordan Manufacturing
This paper would seek to outline the various changes that have been experienced at Riordan, that have contributed to the problems within the organization, namely, lack of motivation, Low morale, low sale and loss of profit. The 9 step problem solving approach would be adapted to address the various aspects of what need to be done to achieve Riordan’s new vision as well as the numerous challenges that are likely to be encountered through this journey.

Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
Riordan Manufacturing, a global plastic producer has in the past embarked on major strategic changes. From the scenario it has adopted innovative strategies as regards the way it manufactures and markets its products. The company has been compelled to take the above actions because sales and profit were declining. Below are the changes that are identified in the scenario.
The Research and Development (R&D) department now has an extra responsibility which is to assist the Sales department in sales. Research and Development is now a part of the Sales team. This has been introduced to replace the old concept of sales persons. Each team comprises a salesperson, a production engineer specialist and a customer service representative. Another important aspect is that work teams at the plants are self supervised. Riordan expects that this new strategy would lead to better customer relation management, revamp sales and finally lead to increased profit.
Furthermore as part of the Riordan’s major system redesign there has been the introduction of what a six sigma approach. This is a long-term concept geared towards improving profit by ensuring high standards in terms of quality.
