The manufacturing industry is faced with several factors such as employee motivation and organizational strategies. According to the University of Phoenix (2008), many manufacturing companies employ individuals from different educational backgrounds, generations, ethnicities and family situations. Most organizations are made up of skilled trade workers, administrators, technical employees, sales and management staff. How a company handles a well diversified company will determine whether the company will be a productive company or a not so productive company. Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics producer company who is facing challenges in employee morale, employee retention and declining sales (University of Phoenix, 2008).
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
The issues that face Riordan Manufacturing are employee motivation, morale and work ethic issues, the lack of communication and consistency amongst team leaders, compensation and rewards, costs and organizational restructure. Riordan Manufacturing has implemented several new systems but sales and profits have continued to decline, employee retention numbers as well as morale and work ethic numbers have declined. Employee’s motivation is an issue that does not discriminate any company. Organizations of all sizes deals with employee motivation and are faced with lower job satisfaction and increased turnover (University of Phoenix, 2008). Motivation refers to an employee’s willingness to exert effort toward a goal (Dreher and Dougherty, 2001). Riordan employees would like to be recognized for the work they perform, be able to make use of their skills and abilities, the opportunity for advancement and feel important.
