... Of prejudices
There are only two sides of a coin. On one side of it prejudices may be annoying, quite often disturbing and on the whole very useless. After all we live in a century of technology and mass media and such a backward thing mustn’t obstruct people’s lives. However, on the other side of the coin lies the understanding that we need prejudices and they play a significant role in our lives for good or evil.
Love at first sight is a very intriguing phenomenon. It is rare, but it does happen from time to time. Nevertheless people say “you can’t judge the book by its cover” for some reason. First impressions are very often misleading. No matter how educated or outgoing a person is the truth is that everyone has prejudices. It is inevitable I might say. We live in a world where people are divided by innumerable factors. For example when a man looks at a woman the first thing that is measured in his mind is not the slim chance that she can be the one and only person smart enough to define the causes of time and space anomalies inside black holes, but one of the two most deeply implanted features of mankind ever – lust and violence. It does take quite some time to become well-acquainted with one’s personality, but I believe that after having met a many-sided person it is always worth passing through the process of familiarizing. The satisfaction one can get from friendship and love is what makes the world go around and something as foolish as prejudices should not stand in its way.
What a wonderful place the world would be if there weren’t such things as prejudices, sins, drugs, alcohol, betrayal and wars. The world is as it is and no matter what we do we cannot change it for at least a millennium. Again and again prejudices would tell you “he must be dangerous, don’t talk to him” or simply “don’t say ‘yes’”.
