What is considered “American” and how does Pop Culture have a negatives effect on our ideas of it?

To say I’m proud to be an American comes with great honor. Being an American means equal gender rights, freedom of religion, and freedom of your own expression whether its clothing or art however, today’s pop culture may have a negative effect on what we believe is to be American. There is a negative effect because of pop culture in the media, magazines, as well as our so called “role models”. As Americans, we tend to conform to what is popular because it may feel right however, it may be negative to individuals due to popular culture. The rights America strived to reach seem to be downplayed or reversed causing an effect that is anything but positive. Though there is still a lot of pride in America, pop culture doesn’t help out.
Freedom, a word us Americans use quite often. This is because, we have so many choices and are allowed to live our lives without dictatorship. One example of this would be our freedom of religion. Throughout U.S. households, you will find many different religions from Christianity to Buddhism. No matter what religion a person choice to practice there will always be a place of worship waiting for them to fulfill their religious needs. If one should travel to another county such as Cuba, you would only see Catholicism unlike here in America where there is a vast variety of religions. Religion is a person’s choice, and in the United States, we have to freedom to choose.
A doctor, a lawyer, a parent, and a nurse are all jobs that were once gender specific. In America today it doesn’t matter whether someone is a female or a male to get a job because there are equal gender rights. A man can wear a skirt if he wanted to because he has the freedom to be as feminine or as masculine as he pleases, this applies to women as well.
