Experiencing God
Who is this God which we heard or I heard from the mouth of other persons who are saying that they experienced God or the presence of God once or several times in their lives? Is this God, for the Catholics or for the Christians, is the God that spontaneously stands out in their mind after hearing the word God? Or is this the God of other religion? Is this God, similar to the gods or goddess in ancient times, or they are different but the attitude of the believers toward them don’t differ, theirs just only one attitude toward them? Maybe not, maybe yes, because the gods and goddesses have different attributes in comparison with the other gods and goddesses. And do the powers of God in comparison to the powers and characteristics of the gods and goddesses, are different? Or it is just a matter of distribution of powers, that’s why believers have different attitudes towards a particular God, god or goddesses. Only because of this starting question: “who is this God in experiencing God?”, several sub questions has been formulated spontaneously in my mind, those that are written above. Because of this I would like to consider in my paper not just my own religion and beliefs but I would like to consider also some religion. I want to consider the history of experiencing God. Not the process but the history of how it started, from what belief or tradition. Starting from Greco-roman religion because they are polytheist during ancient times, up to the Christian tradition of experiencing God and the Islam’s Sufism.

As the Roman Empire expanded, the Romans borrowed from the Greeks, Egyptians, and Persians. For example, the Egyptian goddess Isis had a temple in Rome. The Persian god Mithras became very popular among the armies of Rome. During the...
