Self-Reflection on Personal Values
After completing the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory self-assessment test I scored (c) Character. According to the test people with this score tend to base their ethical perspective on what it is good to BE rather then what it is good to DO. Frustrations when addressing ethical dilemmas occur when ethical considerations appear to be tacked on to the real business of organizational decision making-almost as an after thought (The Williams Institute, 2006). I think the role of a manager in promoting an ethical workplace is leading by example. Rules and policies alone do not make an ethical organization, but acting on the morals behind these rules and policies do. My personal values are based upon the following rule “Do not do to others what would anger you if done to you by others” (Nicocles, Isocrates, 436-338 B.C.).
Kudler’s Values
According to Kudler’s Strategic Plan (Kathy Kudler, 2003) their mission is to provide their customers with the finest selection of the very best foods and wines so that their culinary visions can come true. They are doing this with their vision to be the premiere gourmet grocery store for those savvy shoppers who are searching for the finest meats, produce, cheeses, and wine. They have a social responsibility statement where they state to use as much as organic products as possible and food is rotated of the shelves to maintain a high quality standard. Those items that are still in “good” condition are donated to local homeless shelters and food kitchens. Given this information you could state that Kudler’s values are based on high quality, loyalty and fairness.

Value alignment
