Introduction
Personal ethics and the values play an important role not just in an individual’s daily life, but in his or work environment. Therefore, it is important to take personal responsibility for ones actions in his or her personal and professional life. Personal values play an important role in our decision making and doing well for oneself is not always best. According to Bucaro (2006), “This simple question reflects the old saying that life is the giving, not in the getting and the degree in which you give is the degree to which you get.” The saying is so true, but people do fall short of understanding that personal values are not always getting what you want, but rather doing what is best for the whole organization.
In addition, Bucaro states the following:
Any number of ethical issues, questions, and situations could be easily resolved by “tapping” the wisdom of those who have our best interests at heart. It certainly cuts the “learning curve” and keeps us on task and better focused (2006).
Therefore, with this in mind, I know that my own personal values need to be re-evaluated and analyzed when it comes to meeting the needs of the organization as a whole. I will identify my values and how do these values align with Kudler Fine Foods.
Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory Results
Based on the results from the ethics awareness self-assessment, I find that my ethical perspective is leaned towards “obligation” and least accepting of the ethical style of “equity.” My personal values tend to be focused on respecting other and respecting human dignity. I tend to lean towards valuing individual respect, and people are responsible for their own actions. My personal values focus on equality and opportunities for all, rather than on focusing to achieve the greater good for the organization and social structures.
