While performance appraisals clearly have administrative (Humphreys 2008) and motivational purposes, and we do not wish to downplay these vital objectives, the exercise should also provide the organization with dynamic control measure. In order for this to be a successful company, it is imperative that everyone is involved in the evaluation of their performance. The actual written policy and procedures will be available next week in each employee mailbox. Each department manager will review the performance appraisal system with their immediate staff, prior to 1/31/2009. All employees should review this document and be prepared to ask their sales manager questions pertaining to their specific requirements. The company is setting in motion the policies of the company that are fair but will require everyone to do the work, to do their fair share.

The method of appraisal the company will use will be Management by Objectives (MBO). The reason this method was chosen was primarily due to the significant challenges sales people have in sometimes attaining their sales goals, and not all staff have sales requirements.
