American Dream Research Paper English III

Objectives:
• Develop and refine a complex thesis
• Use process writing effectively
• Write an organized, well-developed compare/contrast paper
• Use both primary and secondary sources to support your ideas
• Develop interviewing skills
• Show proficiency in MLA documentation

Due Dates:
Thesis February 5th
Working Notes/Works Cited March 3rd
First Draft (3 pages typed) March 31st
Final Draft April 14th

Final Draft must:
• Follow MLA format
• Be typed-double spaced (12 font)
• Include a typed Works Cited page
• Include the typed script of the interview
• Be five to seven full pages (excluding Works Cited and interview)
• Be turned in to turnitin.com

• 8 to 10 sources total (min. 3 primary, 5 secondary)

• close analysis of a minimum of 3 songs, poems, short stories, films, or TV series (primary)

• From a historical context, establish a definition of the American Dream, (using definition provided and other research as support)
• Identify whether and how the dream has changed over the course of the nation’s history:

o 2. It was once not corrupt but now is
o 3. It has always been corrupt
o 4. It was once corrupt but is not now

Body 1
• Find and discuss three (short stories, poems, movies, or TV series) which clearly portray a definition and commentary regarding the American Dream
