The Negative Affects of Violence and Sex Television
Are you satisfied with what your child is watching on television? Are we all satisfied? Can you all honestly say that your child’s negative behavior is not influenced by what he or she’s taught on television? Seemingly harmless television viewing has been linked to violence and sexual promiscuity at a young age. Our society has changed dramatically due to T.V. programs that have created a lot of unacceptable violence and sexual behavior overtime.
T.V. violence seems to be one of the contributing factors in children’s negative development. Children tend to watch T.V. for continuous hours. It seems like they are not affected by it, but a study shows that “media violence can affect any child from any family” (T.V. and film violence pg.1). Given that T.V. teaches children to be violent and gives them anger management problems, psychologists have also stated that “Every violent T.V. increases a little bit like hood of a child growing up to behave more aggressively”. Parents should be concerned and should monitor what types of T.V. shows their kids watch and also watch television with their kids to help enforce the rules. Also, TVs out of children’s bedrooms. Both parents should be involved in setting rules to reinforce the message against T.V. violence. The choice to act now can prevent children form becoming criminals and sexually active at a young age.
Most T.V. shows tend to show more sexual contents that influence teens to becoming sexually active. About everything you see on television is about sex and it is not helping our young people. “In 2003, 83% of the top 20 shows among teen viewers contained sexual content, including 20% with sexual intercourse” (Teen sexual behavior pg.2 ).
