Everyday millions of people turn on their TV’s and what are they watching? Commercials, people tying to sell them something anyway they can. Advertisers will do anything to try and persuade people to buy their product. Sex is always a productive way to sell a product. Why? Because sex sells. When there is an attractive women in an advertisement people will look at that ad. For the advertisement I chose, there is a split in the middle of the page with a girl who has curing things in her hair, stuff on her face, and she is wearing a robe. Next to that is the same girl in a red dress that looks ready to go out to dinner or a party. The caption says, “The longer you wait…the better it gets,” with a bottle of whiskey in the middle. This ad is showing that in our society today, women take a long time to get ready, and in the process of them getting ready they take drastic measures like putting green goo on their face to become as beautiful as they can. What the ad is saying is that whiskey, as we all know, takes a long time to age and a long time to get to the point where it can be sold, and it also takes women a long time to get ready, but the end result is a beautiful girl, so the end result of aging the whiskey is that it will be the best whiskey.
This ad is effective in trying to sell its product because people can relate to what they are showing. Everyone knows that girls take forever to get ready. If they are going out to a party or even going to the store, girls take forever to get ready. This is just a fact of life, but the one good thing about girls taking a long time to get ready, is the end result. Girls can look like a horrifying monster in the process of getting ready, but when they are finished it is worth it because they look so good. When this ad states, “The longer you wait…the better it gets” it is showing that just like waiting for your girlfriend or wife to get ready, whiskey takes awhile to get ready.
