Men, Media, Sex and How They Use Women to Their Benefit
The familiar cliché that men are from Mars and women are from Venus proves to be a good portrayal of the significant difference between the male and female genders. In the case of males, this phrase correctly shows that men behave much more differently than females especially when the matter is related to sexual aggression. Those men that are sexually aggressive are not able to distinguish the negative emotions or reactions displayed by women thus causing the men to increase their persistent behavior to lessen the impact of rejection. Men are thought to think of sex every eight seconds, which clarifies many of their behaviors. Gender is a role that men and women fall into and show in many different ways. Men try to achieve a very high state of masculinity and try to behave more so as an authority figure by making themselves feel superior by using women to maintain power and control. For example, rape became understood as a brutal form of personal domination and a form of social control that reinforced women’s already subordinate role to men. Men use women in a sexual manner to gain their masculinity, and being justified by society and the media leaving society to believe that this behavior is acceptable. Many of these sexually charged behaviors go unnoticed every second of the day. This behavior can happen in very minute or great extremes. Young men especially, with the help of society and the mainstream media uphold the common stereotype of a “pig,” yet still go unnoticed to most as they try to act hyper-masculine. With the growing influence of media, young men and the growing culture around them are using women in very derogatory ways to gain their masculinity.
