InterClean’s new strategic initiative focuses on the development and delivery of a comprehensive solutions model. This will require that all members of the sales team are proficient in areas such as OSHA and other environmental regulations. In addition, staff will need to be knowledgeable regarding industry specific sanitation / sterilization processes. This will require extensive training resources on the part of InterClean.

One characteristic of high performing companies is the use of training, as it is an essential component of high performing work systems. These systems are reliant upon employee skills and initiatives to identify and resolve organizational problems (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001 p. 122) “That is, training, education, and development have been about processes designed to help employees acquire knowledge, skills, and other attributes needed to be effective in new and changing work settings (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001 p. 122).

Organizational fit / Employee motivation

The merger of InterClean and EnviroTech has prompted InterClean employees to question the stability of their positions. As a result, employee morale and motivation is low, and members of the sales team are concerned about maintaining predefined targets during periods of training.

InterClean needs to improve existing morale and recruit individuals who exhibit high levels of motivation. In order to do this, the HR staff of InterClean must have an adequate understanding of the organizations culture as well as the values, interests and needs of individuals (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001 p.111) “Finding and retaining motivated employees is often about indentifying individuals who “fit” your company’s unique culture and who find the outcomes associated with high performance to their liking” (Dreher & Dougherty, 2001 p. 111).
