Pursuing an MBA for Small Business Success
Those who know me casually, or very well, would agree that I am one of the liveliest people that one may encounter. My current strength lies in sales and I have successfully generated and maintained revenue for various companies during my nearly 15 year work history. However, I realized that I cannot live up to my life’s full potential without focusing on my dream of small business ownership. I have an entrepreneurial spirit and that was confirmed to me by taking the Jungian Personality self-assessment. The results indicated that I was in fact outgoing, spontaneous, unconventional, and I would have a career in sales. I have certainly gone
from job to job, searching for something that was not there and that kept me from focusing on the education that I desired. An entrepreneur making the decision to pursue an MBA is, I believe, a wise one. Many entrepreneurs own small businesses and are responsible for being knowledgeable in various areas in the business world. Thus, I look to expand my knowledge, skills, and abilities in understanding business theory and applications. I believe the MBA program at the University of Phoenix will provide me with the opportunity to grasp many basics of business theory and applications necessary to start a small business successfully.
Many topics will be covered in an MBA program and some of those are: problem solving, effective communication, reducing uncertainty, and thinking critically. As the University of Phoenix Dean (2008, para. 1) states “Your MBA at the University of Phoenix prepares you to add new knowledge as you need it, think critically and creatively solve problems, work collaboratively, and communicate in different media as you progress toward your professional goals.” However, when starting a small business in particular, one would also need a strong foundation in understanding legal matters, business finance, and how to manage others effectively.
