Mastering A Life Skill

There are a large percentage of people in the world that possess inadequate skills when it comes to communicating effectively with others. I firmly believe that all people should actively strive to master their effective communication ability. There are endless advantages in being able to effectively communicate with others. We all need to be able to express ourselves in an effective manner whether we are conversing with a family member, a complete stranger, or a boss at work. There are several types of communication that a person needs to learn in life, some are spoken, and some are written, and some are neither. One of the most important aspects of communication is listening. You cannot understand where a person is trying to say if you do not take the time to listen to them. The consequences of poor communication skills can be detrimental to a person’s social development. If a person fails to fully develop socially, they very well may fall short in achieving their life goals or dreams. If you apply the theory, “a world that does not know how to communicate”, to a macro perspective of society you will begin to see how ineffectively the world communicates amongst itself. Visualize a world of people that understood each other.
On a personal level, the development of effective communication will help us to reduce anxiety when speaking to an unfamiliar person or group. Being able to overcome the fear of speaking to unfamiliar people or groups of people will open all kinds of doors for a person. This will also increase our self esteem, and confidence, while helping us find the positive qualities in others as well. A person should be proficient in all methods of spoken and written communication. These skills will enable us to express verbally and nonverbally, a wide range of feelings and thoughts, both positive and negative.
