Marijuana

I strongly believe in the legalization of marijuana. The consequences are far to great for the reasons behind them. Marijuana is one of the most over exaggerated drugs used among teens, and is commonly associated as the “gateway drug.” Marijuana is not harmful in long or short-term effects, and at some universities, it has even been known to prevent lung cancer, ironically enough.   Legalizing or decriminalizingmarijuana has been one of the most controversial subjects among youths, adults, and congress for a long time. This is partly due to the fact that many citizens believe, and can prove, that marijuana is safer than alcohol. The use of Cannabis is a socialregularity, much like drinking. Marijuana also serves a strong medicinal purpose, for a variety of diseases and disorders. If marijuana were legalized, a whole new economy would open up, offering new jobs to people in need. The clincher, and most widely used excuse for illegalization of cannabis is that it is a “gateway drug”. Many authorities use this to describe the effect cannabis has and the power it evokes on uses This is a much more controversial subject than many believe, spanning off the average teenager and reaching out to pharmaceutical companies, legal cannabis distribution centers (for prescribed use) and making its way to congress.   The standard explanation for many people using marijuana is that it is safer then alcohol. Users of marijuana have far less dependency, intoxication level, and withdrawal symptoms, with a rating of 1, (from a 1-6 scale) according to www.saferchoice.org. Alcohol ranked these categories at the lowest being a 3 for dependence, and doubling to a 6 for the categories of intoxication and withdrawel. In fact, some would argue that the only drug safer then marijuana is caffeine.   Alcohol is also not a possible substitute for prescription drugs.
