Management and Leadership User name School name School info Professor Name Abstract This paper will address the differences between management and leadership while examining the roles and responsibilities of those leaders while attempting to create and maintain a healthy organizational structure. The four functions of management will also be discussed in regard to creating a healthy culture while offering suggestions and strategies for companies to follow. Management and Leadership Overview Managers and leaders may have much in common however, there can be differences. Managers usually have formal authority over subordinates. Work is handed down to employees while workers follow a routine with some or little supervision in completing assignments. Upper management creates goals and delivers objectives to lower level managers, who in turn assign tasks to his or her employees. Leaders meanwhile do not usually have subordinates or formal authority but instead attract followers. A leader inspires others to excel while offering assistance and motivation. Followers feel compelled to accept activities and circumstances that a leader may stress upon thus creating loyalty to that individual. Leaders possess skills that inspire others and may persuade them into following their direction. Roles and Responsibilities Four Functions of Management Management presents an outline of goals and tasks once a plan has been approved. Resources are identified and directed into areas of expertise while team leaders keep in constant communication ensuring plans are being directed in the correct path. These team leaders serve to ensure checkpoints and deadlines are met in an efficient manner.
