What Makes A True Hero

When people hear the word “hero” the first image that enters their minds is a knight; a knight in shining armor, riding a beautiful white steed with a long white mane and tail, who is on his way to rescue “his fair lady” even if that involves facing a dragon head on. Sadly, no such knights exist anymore. In fact, production of suits of armor stopped centuries ago. Today’s heroes are not quite as noticeable as the knights once were. They are ordinary, everyday people; people that are brave, loyal, and selfless.
Everyday people are put in situations where they have to confront their fears. They could be fears as trivial as being scared of spiders, or something as horrifying as dying. However, as Franklin P. Jones says, “Bravery is being the only one who knows you’re afraid.” After all, how can one be brave if they are not scared? People, like our service men and women, face the constant fear of death to protect us. Firefighters are brave and put their lives on the line for people they do not know everyday. People who put their fears behind them without thinking twice for a selfless reason are the bravest people in the entire world. They are true heroes.
Loyalty is defined as a feeling of friendship or duty towards someone or something. People who are loyal will do anything for those they are loyal to. Jesus is an extraordinary example of loyalty. Jesus was so loyal to God, his father, and to his people. Jesus died on the cross for his people, the greatest amount of loyalty that can ever be shown. In Lord of the Rings, Aragorn was such a loyal person that he risked his own life for people he had protected once before, and nearly died, then went off to fight for his own people that might not have accepted him as a King. Loyalty is the most important quality of a true hero. Only the most loyal of people are true heroes.
Finally, only people that are truly selfless are true heroes. When someone does something right for the wrong reasons, they are not heroes. They...
