WHAT MAKES AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER?

There are many reasons behind in pursuing this article. But this is not intended with any discrimination and prejudicial means against anybody. Rather, it pertains to understand the importance of being an effective teacher in student’s learning.
Teaching is a complex responsibility and many-sided profession demanding a variety of traits and ability. To teach is to “promote learning”. It means that effective classroom management depends in large measure on the teacher’s ability to plan interesting, student centered, multi-activity lessons to promote a high degree of student involvement and participation.
As seen in today’s reality, there is a need to seriously ponder at how education, in the broadest word, can be better used to help professionals adjust to change and prepare themselves to meet the challenges of global competition and newest technologies. But unfortunately, there exists the danger of confusing more with better education.
Take a closer look on this matter between student and professor. The experiences of college and university professors disclose the sad fact that the average Filipino student has to be hammered and whipped into line in order to make him work hard. Student will not read more than what the professor’s assigned. Students utter, why exert so much effort and so much time when one can pass through with a grade of “3”? So, now what’s the problem?
In times of learning, students truly admire a strong teacher – a well-informed man, calm and sure of himself, understanding and determined. Students idealize the teacher. Students will speak about the teacher as a person and the knowledge that he has. A professional teacher should understand the students and be concerned about the students. He should have moral and personal relationship with the students and be able to approach him wholeheartedly. A professional teacher should be a patient listener. He must listen to the views...
