Machiavelli Verses Kautilya
Machiavelli and Kautilya views are extremely hard to comprehend only because they contradict with the way society views itself as of today. All people are brought up to follow leaders who have certain characteristics traits. Those who are being led have faith, respect and trust in their own leader. Machiavelli uses the public's views on him to his own advantage but only in a negative way. Machiavelli does not seem to trust anybody but himself and is always on the look out for other intruders in his righteous space. He does not seem to have a large ego; due to the fact that he is very insecure with himself. His insecurities, cause him to have eyes in the back of his head, so that he can find out everything about who, what where, when and how. When it comes to Kautilya governing his land or to defending it, he is extremely strategic and analytical to his every move. Their actions are caused by self-concerned views of society and have also caused others to behave in their selfish ways.
Kautilya differed from Machiavelli because his Indian emphasis was about self control and wisdom upon the ruler's ability; to balance his ethical behavior in the governing practices. Machiavelli was more concerned about the methods and rules for a prince. Machiavelli said "A man who wishes to make a profession of goodness in everything must necessarily come to grief among so many who are not good"(Machiavelli 45). Both Kautilya and Machiavelli helps the government employees of their time to carry out the day- to- day training to protect the future leaders; both are trying to convince the audience to go along with their ideas. Machiavelli and Kautilya use their guidelines and thoughts to be true evidence about what should be done to deal with the aspect of governing.
