Leadership And Safety Strategys
At work the first and fore most things a leader must do before making any decisions is a risk assessment. Safety is of the up most importance. Every good and established leader has had good safety protocols. After safety comes help. As we all know, good help is hard to find, especially trust worthy help. In taking my survey I realized that I was a performer. I truly do believe that. In my line of work nothing is recognized or cared about unless they are shown pure performance. Once given a task it must be completed. I had a couple of soldiers at my last duty station who taught me a very valuable lesson when it came to leadership and learning which style I had and which style brought forth more results. About 8 months ago a new Soldier came aboard my group (I'll call him James). He and I hit it off really well from the beginning, so I thought that the three of us (me, James and Yolanda) would make a good team. But almost since the beginning of James time here at work Yolanda has shown a new side of her (at least to me) in that she constantly puts down James work.
I've seen James work and it is good. I saw James work under his previous unit and it was good. Yolanda not only has consistently not liked his work but the way she shows it has been deplorable. She will tell him to correct many things in James documents then, when he hands in the revised work, she criticizes his use of the "new additions" that she wanted in the first place! I could go on.... Eventually, what happens is that these petty delays add up and James gets blamed for handing in work late by Yolanda.
That little story was a very big reminder of mines, that you must always carefully evaluate your workers. Being in the United States Army in a unit that is completely under strength has opened my eyes to taking up the business side of the house. You must have good leadership in order to succeed.
