Is It Justified
In this essay I argue that the effects of war suffered by soldiers are not justified, however no matter what happens to these soldiers our decision to go to war is not based on this. War has always been part of the past and the way we feel about war is still the same. Even though years go by, everyone is still terrified and worried once war is declared, and as nation we become closer because of this fear. But this fear does not stop war from occurring; even if the soldiers suffered emotionally, physically, and psychologically and their families are affected as well, war still takes place and the suffering that the soldiers endured are not justified.
As a nation, those elected to office are protecting American’s rights and lives, and Americans are relying on them to make the right choices for the nation. However when dealing with war, it is hard to see if the decision to go to war is right because those elected to office are not the ones in combat. But this does not stop them from declaring war, because they want to protect the nation, if we don’t who will? War has always been around and declaring war is nothing new, according to an article, “A study by the social psychologist Pitirim Sorokin showed that since 901 A.D., Russia has been at war for at least forty-six out of every hundred years, England fifty-six, Spain even more.” (LeShan, 72). This statement proves that war is a word that keeps appearing as years go by and as a nation we need to protect ourselves from danger. The responsibilities of those elected to office is so important when dealing with war, not only do they have to consider if going to war is right, but is it worth losing the lives of many Americans. If the reason for having a war is right, then the nation must act. For instance, the attack on September 11 started the war against terrorism, some people believe that this war is pointless because we cannot defeat it, but others believe that if we don’t do something now it will get worst....
