John Proctor Crucible Eulogy
I stand here today before you, the friends, family and acquaintances of John Proctor and see a commune in mourning, and from this I can take solace from the fact that I am not alone in my grief. Let there be no solitude for any of us in our hour of sorrow. Let us stand united today and pay our last respects to our friend, John Proctor, a man who lived a life truly deserving and demanding of respect. It is indeed a tribute to John that in these times of such trials and tribulations, that so great a part of this community grieves and has come here to honour him. This acknowledgement of the sway John carried in Salem is greater homage then I can hope to pay today.
John's parents, Jacob and Mary, were both born in the small township of Tassam just 10k north of where we stand today. Jacob and Mary enjoyed a close friendship throughout their childhood, which blossomed into a deep love that was formalised on April 9th in the year 1650. Just 11 months after their union, John, their first son came into this world, born an even 7 pounds on March 4th 1651. The first of three Proctor boys, John was from the outset a bright and serious child, prone to asking numerous questions in a seemingly insatiable thirst for understanding. In many regards John followed in his father's steps. Taking over the farm at just 16 and marrying the love of his life, Elizabeth, just two years later; and finally mirroring Jacob's actions with three boys of his own. For the most part the Proctor household was a happy one built around a genuine affection between John and Elizabeth as well as their loving and considerate parenting.
Today, we are gathered to give our thanks for the life of John Proctor; to thank God for a man who truly contributed something to all of us.
