Intelligent Design in School Curriculum
The issue of teaching creationism in the public school system has been a heated debate for a very long time. Over the years, many different arguments have risen. Today the major argument for the teaching of creationism in the public school system is that Creationism is believed to be a scientific theory, and therefore it should be taught alongside evolution. The groups of people that are against Creationism being taught in the public school system believe creation science is an invalid theory, and that by being taught in the public school system, it violates the separation of church and state. I believe that Intelligent Design should be taught in public, private, and home school curriculums because I believe in Creationism. Creationism has also been proven to be more accurate than evolution in the scientific field.
The reason people believe that teaching Creationism in the public school system is a violation of the separation of church and state is because of the “establishment clause.” This clause stated that Christianity should not be taught in the public schools because it might present Christianity as a federally funded and government established religion. People have taken the “establishment clause” to an extreme and made different laws that I personally do not agree with. An example of one of these laws includes banning prayer in the public schools. Another example could be about the Pledge of Allegiance, and the way that people would like for the line “one nation, under God” to be changed.
Creationism can be viewed to some people as just another scientific theory of how the universe was created. Creationism is a scientific theory that has not completely been proven, and that may never prove to be thoroughly accurate.
