America is the land of the free and many nations across the world envy our freedom. There is no other country on earth that can give you the benefits of being an American citizen. As Americans, we should not take our citizenship for granted. There are millions of people from all corners of the globe that migrate to America every year. Immigrants have been coming into America for decades in search of a better life and future for their families and themselves. Immigration has been a hot topic of several political campaigns over the years but the same problem remains. Despite language barriers and other troubles, illegal immigrants are coming into the United States undocumented and finding jobs. Illegal immigrants in the workplace have a direct effect on the United State’s economy, causing increases in crime, and poor human rights.
It is very hard for the United States to stop Illegal immigrants from crossing our borders. Immigrants from all over the world have systems that bypass U.S. law enforcement. Their systems constantly change so it is hard to crack down on their movement. The immigrants that get the most attention in the news are the people from Mexico. Mexico shares a border with the United States so it is very easy for people to walk or swim across the border unnoticed. The Bush Administration proposed a fence be built along the entire border between Mexico and the United States. The construction of the fence was disputed and protested against but it was approved. There are some illegal immigrants that have been living in America for years unnoticed. Many American employers will hire an illegal immigrant and pay them under the table. Illegal immigrants are looked at as “cheap labor”. For example, statistics show that Mexicans will work for a lesser amount than a legal citizen will.
