Nowadays more and more people learn English. It became global language. It is important to start learning English at an early age. English is everywhere. On the internet, there are much more books in English than translated on your mother tongue, especially scientific books. One of the reasons lies in the past the collonisation of the English contributed to spreading of English as lingua franca. Speaking global language has some advantages, but also disadvantages.
On the one hand you broaden your horizons. Speaking a global language gives you more job opportunities. Nowadays it is hard for young people to find a job, but with a good knowledge of English you can go to work abroad. The world becomes smaller and smaller because of the different tools like Facebook, Myspace, blogs and chats. Chat is a modern means of communication that helps all sorts of people to keep in touch daily. Another good thing is when you travelling to different countries like Italy or China you can communicate in English and be understood wherever you go.
On the other hand speaking and writing in English reduces your native linguistic diversity. Reading books and watching films in English diminishes the time one has to improve their mother tongue.
