At the end of World War II, one thing many people could agree on is wartime
allies United States and the Soviet Union were very greedy in terms of postwar
reconstruction. Within this greed, communism struck a huge cord throughout this
time frame from the 1940’s to the early 1990’s all throughout what is known
today as the Cold War. Communism can be best defined as a nation with one
unified goal, to weaken imperialism with a common goal to take over the world.
In the early Cold War years, “containment,” also known as an attempt by the
United States to stop the rapid domino effect of countries turning communist,
was a big factor in the Truman Doctrine which historians say was the start of
the Cold War. Throughout the Cold War with the Soviets and United States
battling for supremacy, foreign policy became an important issue in regards to
the United States “containment” policy. In order to protect national interests,
national security, and economic prosperity, the United States had to keep their
foreign policy efficient especially with the possibility of nuclear attacks
between them and the Soviets.
Throughout the 1950’s of the Cold War, the Soviets and the United States engaged
in a nuclear arms race where both sides had the nuclear power to blow each other
to shreds and basically tear apart an entire nation. Both the Soviets and the
United States used the theory of Mutual Assured Destruction where the full scale
use of nuclear weapons would be used if one side attacked the other. This
theory proved beneficial in terms of keeping the Cold War “cold,” but the
ultimate fear of a nuclear war made foreign policy and other factors that much
more important. If by chance a nuclear war ravaged through any nation, allies
would be extremely beneficial. Throughout the mid 1950’s, a Cuban Revolution took place which ended in the ultimate result of an overthrow of leader Fulgencio Batista and led to the
