“Scrambled Eggs”
“Scrambled Egg” is a drama that is performed by five people. These five people all shared similar problems in their lives, but mainly because of their mental illness. This drama portrayed each of the five characters’ real life stories of how they battled with their mental illness. The play started off with many words being yelled out in the back ground that related to the mental illness such as, depression, feeling alone, trapped in a hole, no sleep, and etc. During the play, they reenacted the main points of how their depression came about. For example, with Tiffany, one of the actors, they portrayed how she was abused by her dad which caused her to cut her arms. Another part of the drama portrayed a scene that seeking help was a solution in which medication was provided. With the medication scene, they emphasize the difficulties of finding the right medication because the patient has to go through many trial and errors. However, the patients found the right solution to recover and began to find hope.
Overall, I thought the play was confusing due to the fact that everything was happening so fast. It took me awhile to start understanding that this play was about mental illness while even knowing from you that it was about mental illness. Throughout the play, I found it difficult to follow up on what was going on, but certain part of the drama did give n showed emphasis on how mental illness came about. Towards the end of the drama, we were notified that they were all victims of mental illness and have now been recovered. Knowing about this shocked me because I didn’t think that they would be the ones to be the actors. If I were to be a victim of mental illness, I would be afraid to even share about my past even if I recovered. The questionnaires towards the end made it touching for me.
