The Hiding Place
The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom is the story of the Ten Boom family during World War II. It represents Corrie’s Personal memoir of the events that she experienced. And is also a personal statement of her faith as a Christian. Throughout the story the virtues of trust, grief, and religion are expressed through the characters of Betsie and Corrie. Corrie and Betsie use these merits in the story to help many people, but especially to help each other get through everyday life and difficult times.
For example, Betsie demonstrated the virtue of trust towards god when they existed in a concentration camp. “Now. Right away. Oh, very soon! By the first of the year, Corrie we will be out of prison!”# Betsie had faith in God and knew that her and Corrie would survive and get out of the concentration camp. On the other hand, Corrie didn’t show as much trust in the lord during there difficult times. “ Will we be together. Betsie? We’re doing all this together? You’re sure about that?”# Unlike Betsie, Corrie did not show as much trust in God when it came to getting out of the concentration camp.
However, the asset of grief would descend upon Corrie during the hard times of the concentration camps because of her fathers death. Corrie had very hard time dealing with her father’s death especially in the hard conditions when she needed him. “ Father. Yes! Oh Father how could I of wept for you.”# Although, unlike Corrie, Betsie did not have such a hard time dealing with her father’s death during the hard times and struggles because she knew that he existed in heaven and didn’t have to go through the concentration camps callousness. “Do you know what I am thankful for?” “I am thankful that Father is in heaven today!”# Corrie wasn’t concerned or scared about her dad because she knew he was in heaven.
On the other hand, Betsie believed in her faith and read the bible and that’s what helped her get through her struggles. “ That’s it, Corrie! That’s His answer....
