Gay Marriages Conflict, Functionalist, And Interactionism
In our society gay marriages are becoming more knowledgeable in states that have past
to perform ceremonies. Our society is showing more people questioning if it is wrong or right.
Observing the surface tension this is causing action to judge some ones beliefs and for them to
explain why society should aloud gay marriages. The primary and most vocal opposition to
homosexual marriage are religious conservatives. Exploring the different theories our society
has with gay marriages our Functionalist, Conflict, and Interactionist Perspective.
The functionalist perspective, is where society is a system made up of a number of
interrelated and independent elements to perform whole. A functionalist assumes
that society is made up of interrelated parts, each of which contributes to the functioning of
society as a whole. Functionalist society is composed of stable patterns (social structure)
which have consequences for society as a whole. When working properly, each part contributes
to the stability of the whole, fulfilling a function that contributes to a system's equilibrium.
However, sometimes the parts can be dysfunctional for society. One way this can occur is when
a change in one part of society disrupts the functioning of another part. A functionalist theorist
examines the consequences of a specific institution for society as a whole. Much has been
decried of, in social conservative circles, about the dangers facing society due to agents ranging
from "atheists" to "the homosexual agenda."
To those whom are sensitive to such claims about marriage of the same sex, they appear
to be “everywhere”. Now there are laws that defy dogma, striking at the vital foundation of
functional society. America is a democracy, and the electorate has clearly voted for a
