2. INTRODUCTION
My topic is the therapeutic effects of friendship. I chose this topic because I wanted to show how something we take foregranted in our lives..friendship..is important and even therapeutic in so many ways. We all have friends but are unaware of the impact they have on us. They help the normal person REMAIN normal. If we are to remain strong, healthy and sane—or even just stay alive, sometimes—the strength of our friendships must be proportional to the strength of the storms that life throws against us.

4. Definition of a Friend
The term “friend” is used very casually by all of us, but what do we truly mean by it? And is the meaning the same for all of us? The word may describe anyone from a casual friend you meet once a week at the library to a best friend who's like a sister.

One way that you might want to define a friend is by those qualities that are sought in a friend, such as commitment, self-disclosure, trust, honesty and commonality.

Commitment means loyalty and devotion to each other and to your friendship especially when a crisis occurs. Genuine friends are willing to be there for you; they do not just make hollow offers.
Self-disclosure means the willingness to open up and share your innermost feelings and experiences that are not shared with too many others. ( If you are reluctant to self-disclose with your friends, you at least let them open up with you, if they wish.)
Trust “Trust means that I know if I share a confidence with you, you won’t blab it to someone else,” says psychologist and burn-out expert Herbert Freudenberger.
