This made Francisco Vasquez de Coronado interested in trying to get the gold. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado set an expedition to go to Cibola in 1540. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado went to sea with 340 Spanish and 300 Indian allies. Coronado also had 1000 Native American African slaves. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado did conquer Cibola. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado also sent out many other expeditions. Francisco Vasquez de Coronado sent Melchoir Diaz to the mouth of the Colorado to meet Hernando de Alarcon who shipped supplies for Francisco Vasquez de Coronado.
