1. According to Albom’s story what do most people think about Heaven? Describe what Albom’s heaven is like.
According to Albom, everyone has a different view as to what Heaven it is. They each have a different “background” that represents that one period of time or that one place that they would love to stay in for eternity. In most cases though, in each person’s heaven are their loved ones welcoming them to their eternal home. According to Albom, heaven is place where people who felt unimportant on here realize how much they mattered and were truly loved.
2. Who are the five people Eddies meets on his eternal journey? Why are they important for Eddie’s heavenly life? What are their relationships to Eddie’s life? What makes them the five people? What is each of their heavens? What is Eddie’s heaven?
The five people Eddie met in heaven was first the Blue Man (Joseph Corvelzchik), his Captain from the war in the Philippines, Ruby (whom Ruby Pier was named after), Marguerite (his wife), and Tala (the little Pilipino girl that was killed by Eddie in a fire).
Each of these five people are important to Eddie’s heavenly life because they all have a lesson to teach him before he enter his heaven and life his eternal life to the fullest. Before entering his heaven Eddie must learn to accept things, to let things go, to forgive, basically rid him of all the unpleasant earthly emotions. And each of these five people has been impacted by Eddie or impacted Eddie’s life at one point in time.
The Blue Man’s heaven was back at Ruby Pier 75 years prior to Eddie’s death. The captain’s heaven at first was envisioned by Eddie to be the battle grounds in the Philippines where the Eddie and the captain met however; the captains true heaven was a place filled with luxurious green grass under the sun, the battlefield before the killing.
