Traditions they are in everyone's lives. They play a very important role in our world; we rely on them to bring us happiness. They also bring the whole family together, like in a reunion. When traditions change some people find it difficult, and some adapt to it very quickly. In the book Fiddler on the Roof by Joseph Stein, It shows the results of changing traditions. Changing traditions sometimes is a good thing and sometimes it's a bad thing. The importance of tradition is in everyone's lives.
Traditions were very important to the family and the community of Anatevka. Tradition is what keeps them balanced on the "roof of life". The community has a certain role for everyone, like what jobs they do and the amount of power they have in their house and the village. The family is made up of a Papa, Mama, Son, and Daughter. The Papa has the duty of making money, feeding the family, picking the life mate for his son and daughter. The Mama has a role of making food for the family, getting the daughters ready for marriage and keeps a kosher home so the papa can read the good book. The Sons have to go to Hebrew school at age 3 and when they are 10 years old they learn a trade. They also have to get married to the girl that papa picks. The daughters have to learn from the mama's how to become a good wife and mother. They also have to get married to the boy papa picks as her husband.
Some traditions were changed by the newer generation in the village of Anatevka. The matchmaker who was Yente went around people's houses finding them a match, if Yente did not make a match no one could get married. Yente brought a match for Tzeitel, the daughter of Tevye and Golde. They match was Lazar Wolf; the butcher who was rich but old. Tevye agreed to this marriage because he thought that if his daughter got married to him she would never starve.
